ASA offers 3 different host institutions in Barcelona to suit any student's level. Feel free to contact an ASA representative so that we can assist you in choosing the right program for you.

Host Institutions:
I: Universitat de Barcelona (UB): Semester/Academic Year - Intermediate & Advanced levels only
II: Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB): Summer, Semester, Academic Year - all levels

Language:
All classes are taught in Spanish at the UB, while the UAB program offers some classes in English.
-Beginners may attend UAB.
-Intermediate level students may attend UAB or UB.
-Advanced/Superior level students may attend UAB or UB.

Credits:
Final transcript for UB and UAB is issued by the Spanish university you attend.
I) Students at the UB can earn 12-13 semester credits during one semester.
II) Students at the UAB earn up 3, 6 or 9* semester credits during the summer term and 12-15 semester credits during one semester.

Academic Focus:
I) UB: Hispanic Studies and Spanish language program open only to students with an intermediate or advanced level of Spanish. All classes are taught in Spanish.
II) UAB: Spanish language, Business/Economics, and Hispanic Studies; open to all levels. All language classes are taught in Spanish; electives are offered in Spanish or English (the majority are in English).

UB Semester (I): Open to intermediate and advanced only. All students take Spanish Grammar and Conversation and then choose 4-5 elective lecture courses in Hispanic Studies. Total approx. 12-14 semester credits.
UAB Semester (II): Open to all levels. Students take 6 credits of Spanish language plus 2 or 3 elective classes. Each elective is 3 credits. Open to all levels.
UAB Summer: Option 1: Students may take one 3-credit Spanish language class.
Option 2: Students may take one 3-credit Spanish language class and one 3-credit elective for a total of 6 semester credits.
Option 3: Students may take 1 or 2, 3-credit electives and no Spanish class for a total of 3 or 6 semester credits.
*Students choosing Option 2 or 3 may take an additional elective for an additional fee. Please contact ASA for detailed pricing.
(Please note: Course selection will be more limited for students taking 2-3 electives, due to scheduling conflicts of certain electives.)

Volunteer Opportunities:
Semester students in Barcelona will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of volunteer opportunities (not for credit). For details about volunteering, visit the Course Listings page for your program.

Housing:
Students can choose to live with Spanish host families who provide three meals per day and laundry once per week or in a shared student apartment* (no meals included).
