Málaga is a southern port city, located on the Mediterranean Sea. The population of the general urban area of Málaga is 1,074,000. Málaga is surrounded by mountains, and also two rivers, Guadalmedina and the Guadalhorce which both flow into the Mediterranean Sea. Like many other cities in Spain, Málaga was overtaken by the Romans and later ruled by the Visigoths. In the 8th century, the city was overtaken by the Moors, and it became an important center for trade. It wasn't until 1487 that Málaga was reclaimed by Spain. The city is a very popular tourist destination, and has large numbers of visitors every year, who enjoy it's warm weather and beautiful beaches.
