Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is part of Spain. It is a popular tourist destination, as are the other Balearic Islands, Ibiza, Formentera, and Minorca. The capitol of the island is Palma de Mallorca. The island itself has been populated by humans for many thousands of years. There has been evidence of Paleolithic people from 6000-4000 BC. Like much of Spain, it has a tumultuous history. It has been ruled by the Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Muslims, and Spanish. The local language is Catalan and Spanish.
