Salamanca - Trimester Program: Spanish Language & Culture

Eligibility: For Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Superior level students.

Intermediate level must have completed at least 2 semesters or 3 quarters of college level Spanish.
Advanced level must have completed at least 4 semesters or 6 quarters of college level Spanish.
Superior level must have completed at least 6 semesters or 9 quarters of college level Spanish.

Students must be at least 17 years of age and have graduated from high school. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Total contact hours: 200-250 per trimester.
15 contact hours = 1 semester credit; 10 contact hours = 1 quarter unit.
Possible U.S. Credits: 13-16 semester credits per trimester.


The final transcript for this program is issued by the Universidad de Salamanca.

Beginner Level:


  • Spanish Grammar: 2 hours/day; 100 contact hours total
  • Language Lab: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total
  • Vocabulary Expansion: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total
  • Practice of Communicative Skills: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total


    Intermediate Level:

  • Spanish Grammar: 2 hours/day; 100 contact hours total
  • Practice of Communicative Skills: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total

  • Intermediate level students can choose ONE of the following for their 4th hour:
        Spanish Culture: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total
        Spanish Literature: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total
        Contemporary Spanish History: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total
        Practice of Written Skills: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total

  • This fifth hour is optional for Intermediate level students. They can choose ONE of the following for their 5th hour:
        Spanish Art History: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total
        Business Spanish: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total
        Practice of Oral Skills: 1 hour/day; 50 contact hours total


    Advanced Level:
