Buenos Aires - Fall 2009
Program Dates: June 18 - November 7, 2009 (with intensive course) / July 16 - November 7 (without intensive course)

Orientation and Tour of Buenos Aires - Gabriela will show you the main tourist sites during a 4-hour city tour. ASA Welcome Lunch & Orientation.

Sunday, June 21
Free day to relax and explore Buenos Aires on your own

Monday, June 22
Students meet Gabriela at the Universidad de Belgrano to complete their registration in the intensive course. You must bring your passport, photocopy of passport and proof of medical insurance. Students take Spanish Placement Exam and receive course schedule for the intensive course. Pick up your proof of registration at the university - this is needed to process your student visa.

Tuesday, June 23
Students begin intensive course classes.
Students apply for their Criminal Records Certificate (required for visa processing; you will collect this in about a week). Scheduling of all visa-related activities may vary according to the students' class schedules. Students should re-confirm with Gabriela shortly beforehand. Attendance to all visa-related activities is MANDATORY.

Semester officially begins. Orientation at the Universidad de Belgrano - ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY FOR ALL ASA STUDENTS. You must bring your passport, photocopy of passport and proof of medical insurance. Students take Spanish Placement Exam for their semester courses. Students to confirm semester class schedule. Pick up your proof of registration at the university - this is needed to process your student visa.

ASA students meet Gabriela for coffee at Cafe Tortoni, the oldest and most famous coffee bar in Buenos Aires.

Day trip - full day at a ranch in the countryside, including traditional Argentine barbeque, horseback riding and folk dancing show. (If it rains, we will reschedule.)

Holiday - long weekend

Friday, August 28 - Sunday, August 30
Weekend trip to IGUAZU FALLS! Students will fly to Iguazu Falls and spend 2 nights there. We will visit the falls and enjoy a full day tour in the national park, returning to Buenos Aires on Sunday, Aug. 30.

Saturday, September 19
Day trip to the city of Luján - tour of the city, lunch and visit the famous zoo. If it rains, we will reschedule.

Friday, September 25 - Sunday, September 27
Weekend trip to URUGUAY! Students will take the ferry to the town of Colonia del Sacramento. City tour of Colonia; spend Friday night in Colonia. On Saturday, students will travel to Montevideo by bus; spend Saturday night in Montevideo. On Sunday, city tour of Montevideo and take the ferry back to Buenos Aires.

Monday, October 12
Holiday - long weekend
Also to be scheduled in late October - ASA Farewell Dinner. Gabriela will schedule this later in the semester.

Friday, November 6
Last day of final exams

Saturday, November 7
End of program; students vacate their program housing and depart for home

SEMESTER OFFICIALLY BEGINS. University Orientation. Spanish placement exam for semester courses. All students register for semester classes. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. New students: bring your passport, photocopy of passport and proof of medical insurance.

In order to get your student visa, you will have to attend an appointment at the Immigration Office in Buenos Airs. Gabriela will make the appointment for you and inform you of the date and time. Scheduling of your visa appointment will happen after arrival, according to your class schedule. After you get your visa, you must bring it to the university the following day. Attendance to all visa-related activities is MANDATORY. If you do not attend your scheduled visa appointment with Gabriela, you will have to obtain your visa on your own. The Universidad de Belgrano will NOT grant you credit for your classes unless you bring your visa to the university.

New students will take the Spanish placement exam. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. New students: pick up your proof of registration at the university (this is required for your student visa!)

ALL STUDENTS will confirm their semester class schedules by appointment with their academic advisor during this week. Students must NOT plan any personal travel during this week until you know when your advisor appointment is!
