Students depart from the U.S.

Airport pick-up for students who arrive at Santiago (SCL) airport before 10am
Transfer to Vina del Mar and move in with host families

Free day to rest and unpack

Day trip to Isla Negra, Pablo Neruda House and Museum

Final exams

End of program; students vacate their program housing. Students who depart for home on this date will be provided with transportation to SCL airport.


Viña del Mar - Fall 2009
Program Dates: July 30 - December 13, 2009
Host Institution: Universidad de Viña del Mar

Airport pick-up for students who arrive at Santiago (SCL) airport before 10am
Transfer to Vina del Mar and move in with host families

Free days to rest and unpack

Monday, August 3
Orientation Day 1 - 10:30am: Welcome and Introduction from the UVM International Office
11:30am: Spanish placement exam (written portion)
3:00pm: Spanish placement exam (oral portion)
After the placement exam, you'll complete a Registration Form to officially matriculate to the UVM.

Tuesday, August 4
Orientation Day 2 - 10:00am: Have your Chilean passport photos taken; these are required by the international police (cost: US$2.80). (Chilean passport photos are a different size than American photos and the police only accept the Chilean passport photos.)
11:00am: "Living in Chile - Daily Life" seminar, includes Health and Safety information, etc.
4:00pm: "Living with a Chilean Host Family" seminar

Wednesday, August 5
Orientation Day 3 - 9:00am: Register your visa with the international police; obtain your identity card. And, register your identity card with the Civil Registry of Foreigners.
4:00pm: Academic Orientation - What does it mean to study in Chile? Students to receive information about registering for classes, class schedules, etc.

Thursday, August 6
Orientation Day 4 - 9:00am: Register your visa with the international police; obtain your identity card. And, register your identity card with the Civil Registry of Foreigners.
3:30pm: Course Selection and Course Schedules
