ASA Study Abroad Alumni Survey Results

I am extremely proud to release the results of our recent survey of ASA alumni. The goal of the survey was to examine why students choose to study with ASA over other study abroad companies, as well as to see what our alumni think are our strengths and weaknesses.

While all students who participate on an ASA program complete a survey at the end of their program, it is geared towards the specific site that they studied in. This current survey, which was given to a random sample of over 200 alumni, aimed to get an overall picture of how we are doing. It appears the answer is, "You're doing a great job!"

Some of the results that we are most proud of are:
100% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the ASA staff members they dealt with.
100% of respondents called their study abroad experience "positive".
94% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the organization of ASA programs and employees.
98.5% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the response time to questions they had.

While the statistics certainly made us feel good about the job we're doing, the comments students wrote made us feel even better. Here are some answers students gave to specific questions on the survey:

What one thing did you like the most about ASA?

"They were always there, even when I had the tiniest question, with a quick response."

"I like ASA's focus on those studying abroad and their efforts to engage the students in the culture and amongst one another."

"Everyone was very helpful. From the paperwork, to getting a student Visa, to the on site director in Florence, everyone was 100% there for me and very helpful. Helpful to not only my inquiries, but my parents as well. A special thanks to Chelsea. I especially appreciated the detailed guidelines ASA provided in attaining a Student Visa because it was not the easiest process. If I hadn't been provided with the detailed checklist from ASA, I would have had much more difficult tome. A lot of the other students I met going through different programs with much less guidance had to make 2,3 sometimes 4 visits before a Visa was granted."

"Chelsea and Lee's support. They were always there when we needed them."

"I love the size of the program. I was really pleased with the smaller size, please keep that in consideration."

"They were very organized and constantly giving us information and help."

"They had all the details sorted, right down to giving us cell phones, which were the best things to have had!"

"How great they prepare you before you leave."

"It's small size and one-to-one attention."

"The small group made everything great and we got much more individual attention."

"How much they provided me with and how helpful they were getting me to and from the airport and the school. Everything that was provided in the tuition. Not all programs offered so much."

What made you choose ASA over the other companies you looked at?

"Better price, better options, nicer staff."

"The level of attention I received from ASA. I felt like you cared about my particular experience."

"The price and I knew someone who had done this program before and really liked it."

"Rates were competitive, the facilities seemed nicer than other programs, and there was more included for the price (excursions, cell phones, meals, etc)."

"ASA offered everything the other companies did, but at a lower cost."

"ASA offered the most. They were personal and cost the least. Everything was taken care of and I didn't have to take care of a thing. It was great."

"ASA offered the most comprehensive program at a price that was unbeatable."

Have you recommended ASA to other students?

"Yes, because I had a great time and I think it's the best study abroad program."

"Yes. ASA is very organized - you care about the students and their experience."

"Yes. I met some amazing students in my group, and I was very happy with how the program was organized."

"Yes, because I loved the entire experience and ASA made the transition so much more smooth than expected. And I really think the value is great for what you get."

"I have most definitely recommended ASA to various other students in my language classes and even to relatives who are either attending college or are on their way."

"Yes. My experience was fantastic. I can't think of anything negative"

It is worth noting that the students filled out the survey anonymously, which was done in the hope that students would give more honest answers.

Regards,
Lee Frankel
Director
