Gorges du Verdon is a river canyon in southeastern France. It is considered by many to be Europe's most beautiful canyon. It was formed by the Verdon river, which was named for it's turqouise green color. At the end of the canyon, the river flows into an artificial lake called Sainte-Croix-de-Verdon. The canyon is a very popular tourist destination because of it's great beauty, but also beacuse of it's close proximity to the French Riviera. Tourists can rent kayaks, hike, or drive around it's rim. It attracts many rockclimbers, and it's limestone walls are several hundred meters tall.
