Eligibility & Application Guidelines

ASA cannot accept applications from outside the United States or Canada. All classes and programs are at the undergraduate level.

Undergraduate students in good standing are encouraged to apply to the ASA program!  Below are the eligibility rules and required documents specific to each program.  In addition to any documents listed below, all applicants must also submit our Online Application Form and $150 deposit, as described on our How to Apply page.  Please note that letters of recommendation must be academic in nature (e.g. written by a college professor or advisor), unless specified below as otherwise.

Official Transcripts must be sent 1 of 2 ways:  1) The traditional way – snail mail in a sealed envelope.  OR  2) If your school offers an electronic official transcript, we will gladly accept that if your institution emails it directly to us at info (at) academicstudies.com.  (An electronic official transcript is not official if it is emailed to you; it must come directly to ASA from your institution in order to be official.)

NOTE to current college students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement:  For some ASA programs, applicants with a GPA that is below the minimum requirement for their program may still apply but must supplement their application by submitting 2 academic letters of recommendation and an essay. The essay should explain why your GPA is below the requirement, your reasons for wanting to study abroad, and how you feel you will benefit academically and personally from the ASA program.  However, because the GPA requirement is more flexible for certain programs and less flexible for others, and your chances of being accepted will depend heavily on how far below the requirement your GPA is, ALL students whose GPA is below the minimum requirement must speak to an ASA representative before applying!

* = Note to pre-college applicants: Applications from high school graduates who have not yet attended college are considered on a case-by-case basis, for programs indicated below with *. Please note that all the GPA requirements listed below are for current college students and college graduates. A higher GPA than the minimum is expected of all pre-college applicants.  In addition to the regular application requirements and documents as described below, pre-college applicants must also submit 2 letters of recommendation and a personal statement. All pre-college applicants are asked to speak with an ASA representative before applying!
