San José, Costa Rica: Spanish for Development Studies (Summer I Program)

This 5-week intensive language program is suitable for students with an Advanced or Superior level of Spanish and whose majors and career interests in the field of international development studies require language skills that permit them to perform in a Spanish-speaking environment.

The program consists of two components, linguistic and topical.  The objectives are to train students to speak fluently in Spanish, prepare them to read texts of social, economic, and cultural relevance, and teach them to write different types of text cohesively and coherently so that they can communicate effectively in Spanish.  The program is complemented with lectures and exercises on the topic of the week and a 3-hour weekly forum discussion.
