Summer Program at Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB) – City Center Campus

**Students are advised to APPLY EARLY for the best course selection, as classes are assigned on a first come, first served basis, and there are a limited number of seats per subject. Students who wait until the Application Deadline to apply may not have all courses available to them. Early application is also recommended because Barcelona is a very popular location and sometimes fills to capacity prior to the Application Deadline.  If you are concerned about getting into a particular class, please call us at 888-845-4272 to confirm availability.

This ASA Barcelona summer program takes place at the city center campus of the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), called the UAB Eixample CampusThe Eixample Campus is located close to one of the most famous streets in all of Barcelona, the stunning Passeig de Gracia.  Here you can find some of Barcelona’s most famous modernist architecture, including Gaudí’s Casa Mila and Casa Batlló, as well as the “Block of Discord.”

ASA program housing is conveniently located in the Barcelona city center, close to the UAB Eixample campus. It takes most students only 15-25 minutes to get to school by subway.

The UAB Summer course offerings (listed below) consist of Spanish Language classes and electives in English focused on Business, Economics, Finance, Spanish Culture, Photography, and more.  Classes are held Monday through Thursday.

All students MUST have 2 alternate courses approved by their home institution, in addition to your top choices, in case of changes in course availability or schedule conflicts. That way, if a course is full or cancelled, or if the courses you want to take meet at the same time, you’ll have back-ups that your school will accept. Ex: If you plan to take 1 course, you must have a total of 3 different courses approved. If you plan to take 2 courses, you must have a total of 4 different courses approved. The UAB will not process your registration if this requirement is not met. (Please note that Spanish Language counts as just one course selection. Ex: Beginner Spanish Language and Intermediate Spanish Language are not 2 different course selections because your level placement will be determined by a placement test.)

It is optional to take Spanish Language on the UAB Summer program. Language levels listed below (A1, A2, etc.) are from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

In the meantime until the Timetable is available for your term, you should be working on getting your classes approved by your home institution and have 2 alternates approved IN ADDITION TO your top choices. We will not be able to register you for classes unless you have 2 alternates, in addition to your top choices!

PLEASE READ THESE HELPFUL TIPS ABOUT COURSE PRE-REGISTRATION!

  • Students will not have time to commute between campuses between the 1st and 2nd classes or the 3rd and 4th classes, as displayed on the Timetable at the link above. Students will have time to commute between campuses during the lunch break.  See timetable link above for details.
  • You are not guaranteed any particular time slot, schedule, or course selection.
  • The UAB charges a fee of €100 for each 3 credits you drop.  If you drop a class and replace it with an equivalent class, there is NO fee. Ex: If you sign up for 6 credits and drop down to 3 credits without adding a class to replace it, you will incur a fee of €100. If you sign up for 6 credits, drop 3 credits but replace it with another 3-credit class, you do not incur a fee.
