Jetsetter program

DEFINITION OF JETSETTER: A PERSON WHO TRAVELS FREQUENTLY

ASA Jetsetters are our network of selected program participants who study abroad with ASA and are passionate about exploring their assumptions and notions about their host country and culture; excited to develop their own intercultural skills; and look forward to promoting the ASA study abroad experience to other students.

This isn’t your typical Alumni program.

We believe in developing your skills and promoting your development before, during and after you’re abroad, rather than solely after, like most alumni programs. Our Jetsetter Program encourages you to actively engage with your study abroad experience, so if you want to do something different or change the way you think about something, you have time to test your new theories and assumptions while you’re still overseas! No “I wish I would have…” or FOMO here!

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

As a Jetsetter, you will get help acclimating to your host country, explore your assumptions and notions about your host country and culture, and develop intercultural skills. You will then use your new knowledge about yourself and study abroad to help inform and talk to potential study abroad students once you return to the USA. You’ll work in collaboration with your school’s study abroad office and help both of us spread the word about study abroad. Lastly, you will receive personal and customized resume reviews and writing assistance, as well as career advising and resources from our ASA Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs in collaboration with your school’s career/alumni office.

REFLECTING ON THE EXPERIENCE

You may not have given much thought to this aspect of being a Jetsetter, but it will probably end up being the most beneficial for you personally. As a Jetsetter it will be very important for you to discover and articulate what your abroad experience means on all levels. This will help you communicate the importance of your time abroad to prospective students, and also to people elsewhere in life (for example, a job interview).

Our Alumni Affairs Coordinator will read and respond to all your reflection exercises and provide thought-provoking feedback and suggestions to consider – it’s like having a personal study abroad sherpa guiding you through your term abroad! No other study abroad program is providing this kind of personal attention to its students and it’s because ASA deeply believes in activating and supporting your growth - gaining cultural skills doesn’t happen through osmosis - you have to actively engage and we’re here to support and guide you!

UNLOCK A VISA GIFT CARD

If you complete the entire program, before, during and after your study abroad term, according to the terms for each level, you can unlock* the following:

  • $100 Visa Gift Card

  • $250 Visa Gift Card

  • $500 Visa Gift Card

*You will receive the gift card for your highest level unlocked once all activities and exercises are confirmed complete. Cards will be awarded within 10 business days following the completion and confirmation of the final item on the level list.

You must be accepted on an ASA program to apply.

If you think the Jetsetter Program is for you, email us at hello@academicstudies.com with “I want to be a Jetsetter” in the subject line.

“Without the Jetsetter Program I probably wouldn’t have been reflecting back on the way I’ve grown over the semester.

Doing the little activities and reflections was so helpful to make me deeply think about my experience, even while being there!"
